WMBC Plans For 2025
The WMBC Board of Directors held our annual planning meeting in January to develop plans for the 2025 cycling season. Planning for 2025 involved reviewing the successful club initiatives rolled out during 2024 to ensure they met membership needs and identifying any necessary changes for the new year. New ideas were considered with a focus on building the local cycling community, providing non-riding meet-ups for club members, and strengthening ties with local organizations to broaden our outreach and offerings.
The WMBC website and Braking News will continue to be our primary source of information sharing, e.g., providing a club calendar, information on over 30 rides, and hosting news articles of interest to the cycling community. The successful WhatsApp ride notification that provides “just in time” ride information will also continue. In addition, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce the following programs and activities for 2025:
GRAVEL RONDE VOUS: Plans for the second annual Gravel Ronde Vous are underway for July 5, 6 2025. The 2-day event will be held on remote gravel roads in the Lick Creek area with incredible scenery with the opportunity to enjoy camp meals, music and games with your gravel enthusiast friends.
PUMP TRACK: The WMBC will partner with Building Healthy Families (BHF) to find a site and build a pump track in the Joseph / Enterprise area. BHF successfully spearheaded and lead the effort to identify funding and construct the Wallowa Bike Playground.
BIKES FOR KIDS PROGRAM: In addition to partnering on the pump track, the WMBC is also looking at a collaboration with BHF for the Bikes for Kids program. Under the collaboration, WMBC members would assist BHF staff in working directly with youth on bike-wrenching skills, ultimately serving the community by providing bikes for those in need.
TRAIL BUILDING AND MAINTENANCE: The WMBC will continue to engage with the National Forest Service on trail maintenance and clearing. In addition, the club will continue advance prospects for building trail on the Community Forest and in the Lostine area.
SPRING MEETING: The WMBC will host the Spring Membership Meeting on May 14th at M Crow at 6pm.
